Rainbow lorikeets (Trichoglossus haematodus) Bibal, Daueer (aboriginal names) have plumage which is very effective in camouflage and when communicating. The green plumage of their backs provides effective camouflage when viewed from above; but when communicating with flock members their flashy head and breast feathers are quickly recognized. This is a classic example of selection balancing and meeting two different needs.
